Fox News has picked up the Blogger shut-down story and it’s currently the #2 story on their web site… and I’m already beginning to feel it. I’m starting to receive email and comments from Obama supporters telling me how stupid I am for not supporting Obama. None of them have actually read my blog, but they know all about “why” I’m not supporting BO. Take Marc:
This is sad. Are you people really that upset because Obama is going to run for President and Hillary is not? Is it because you guys really wanted a woman as the next President? How about this, you have the Green Party. There is a black woman who will be running for President. Since you guys say that you want a woman and you don’t really care about the issues, then here is your chance. Sad that most of you guys will vote for McCain and he already said what he is going to do with some women programs. McCain couldn’t even vote for equal pay for women. Instead, your anger is blinding you from what is right. I am a registered Republican who will vote for Obama. I love my country and I really question if you guys love this country. I feel it is mostly because of the color of Obama’s skin. You guys have supporters like Harriet Christian who say they fought for civil rights but yet start to rant racial slurs. If you are ready to send this country down the drain, please then, vote for McCain.
Let’s take them one by one, shall we?
Is it because you guys really wanted a woman as the next President?
Um. No. I don’t want just ANY woman to be president. I want Hillary. Not because she’s a woman, but because she is the most qualified candidate in my opinion.
Since you guys say that you want a woman and you don’t really care about the issues …
I care very much for the issues, hence I support a person who has fought for my issues for decades. Again, it’s not a WOMAN I want, it’s someone who will fight for me. Haven’t seen that from Obama.
I really question if you guys love this country.
Love it with all the fiber of my being.
I feel it is mostly because of the color of Obama’s skin.
It’s not the color of his skin. It’s the content of his character. Ask my son-in-law.
So, there you have it. According to Marc I am an unpatriotic bigot who only wants to see a woman elected.
Unity Pony for 200, Alex!

The reading and logic abilities of the Obots is really a testament to the failure of of public eduction system.
No pony left behind anyone?
Carissa,
I respect your view, but I support Obama fully. It’s him or Mccain at this point. The choice is yours. Hillary is out, which is a difficuly pill for you to swallow. I can only hope that you stick to the issues and come to the conclusion that Obama is really just like Hillary on just about every issue they have mutually voted on. Havingf said that, as an Obama supporter, I like your blog and respect your opinions.
Jeff, NJ
whoops! Jeff you must’ve missed my Comments Policy. See above and to the right.
Hello, BlueLyon! Found you at Alegre’s Corner. Must blogroll you!
Interesting that the poster is a Republican. Remind me again, why is this person an expert on the motivations of PUMAs, the majority of whom are (or were) registered Democrats?
Seems to me that Republicans are responsible for a lot of the Obamania in the blogsophere, including Arianna, Kos, Marshall and so many of the “A-list” bloggers.
Jeff, as I’ve already told you in my email reply to you: Seriously, read my blog. I have many solid reasons for not supporting Obama and an activist history to inform my reasoning.
I found you because of the Fox News article. In reality I probably disagree with you 90+% of the time however I do agree that Hillary is far more qualified to be President then Obama, although I honestly think that all the candidates this time around are far from ideal. Anyway, I just wanted to point out that what happened to you on googles blogger service happens to conservative blogs regularly. I think these attempts by Google and others to silence anyone they don’t agree with (on the left or right) is purely wrong. You deserve the right to speak your mind just as I do. Admittedly I don’t read to many liberal blogs so I don’t know how often radical right wingers file complaints and cause other problems for liberal bloggers but I know the far left regularly cause this type of problem for conservative blogs, and to be honest it is wrong regardless of who it is. No one has the right to be heard but we all have the right to free speech and our own opinions. Ironically we conservatives are always accused of being in bed with big business yet big companies like Google seem to be left leaning.
WordPress rules. Blogspot drools. Glad you switched. Google has a long history of censorship. It’s scary when an activist organization gets hold of so much power. Google, with its near-monolpoly on web searches and blogging, is a political force to be reckoned with.
I guess guys like me have said it all to you before….hey, like I said, you seem like a smart person and I will not try twisting your arm. Thanks for allowing me to try though! Best wishes with your blog. It is pretty cool.
Jeff
Wow, Marc’s gone around the bend on my About page.
I find it hilarious when someone comes on, says that they are a Republican, and then says that they support Obama. I’m sure there are a handful of people out there that could honestly be an Obama Republican, but you are more likely to be struck by lightning than meet one.
Contrary to the steriotype that the left wants everyone to believe, my opposition with Obama has nothing to do with his skin color. His policies scare me, even more so than Hilary’s. Obama is a socialist, plain and simple. He wants to take more of my money, and give it to people who don’t work as hard. You can debate the war and national defense all you want, I’m afraid of Obama’s economic policies more than anything else.
I’m not crazy about McCain, but when you put him up against Obama, suddenly McCain looks alot better.
So I’m setting the record straight, real Republicans don’t vote for socialists.
TR – my opposition to BO has nothing to do with his skin color either. Frankly, I have no idea what BO would do. He shifts all over the place depending on who he’s talking to. That is the biggest objection PUMAs have to him. He is a man without a core.
Maybe I missed something, who is the “republican” that came on and said they were for Obama?
I agree with TR that Hillary is less scary then Obama however McCain has his serious socalist leanings too. McCain is less scary then Hillary but he is still scary, I fear the direction this country will go regardless of the outcome of novembers elections.
Incidentally I am seeing it more and more that if you disagree with Obama or do not like him as a choice for president that you must be racist. Where in the world is that coming from?
GW – Read the post above: Marc is a self-professed Republican. He originally posted that comment on my About page.
I really am glad that Jeff claims to respect our views, if this is true he is one of few Obama supporters. Like True Republican, I too am fearfull of Obama’s economic policies. I have heard more about programs that he will fund than in most campaigns, yet his plans for paying for all these programs doesn’t seem to be as forthcoming.
I was a Democrat until the RBC meeting, I switched to unaffiliated right after. That said, I have come to have real concern about Obama’s plans for Iraq and Afghanistan. I do see a great deal of progress in Iraq and believe it would put a needed boost to our national image if we actually saw this thing through. I never thought that this war was justified, but we cannot just leave this country broken. I have a major problem with the whole Afghanistan thing though. War in this country broke the back of the Russian economy and military. What makes Obama think that this country will be any different. This is one of those cases where introducing a different way of life is going to be a bit more effective. Obama seems to think that somehow we will be able to divert poppy growers from doing what they have done for a very long time. I thought that we had already attempted that. His plans show that he has not paid attention to the realities on the ground in the country. What must be done is to find something that can replace the profits that the farmers see from this product. Education might also work to some extent, the mindset of the people of the country must change before anything other than what they know will ever have a chance. The Taliban does have a stranglehold here and democracy is an alien concept to the people. By the way Jeff it ws never about race for my vote either, experience was the key.
I am seeing it more and more that if you disagree with Obama or do not like him as a choice for president that you must be racist. Where in the world is that coming from?
It started just after the NH primary, but now it’s being used to deflect any criticism, legitimate or not, from Obama. I’ve heard it said that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. I’m beginning to think that false charges of racism has replaced that.
In the same way that no one was allowed to question GWBush because to do so would be akin to “not supporting the troops,” now, to question Obama is to be a racist. Both propositions are pernicious lies, but remarkably effective in shutting down good-hearted people who just happen to disagree.
cookiegramma – Me too. The RBC meeting was the final nail in the coffin for me. I got my Non-Partisan registration card in the mail the other day. Needless to say, I am not happy with the take-over of the Democratic Party.
Likewise I am not happy with the takeover of the Republican Party. I am no longer a “republican” I only identify myself as a conservative. I would vote libertarian if I wasn’t so worried that Obama would become president.
You are absolutely right about the patriotism thing and “not supporting the troops”. I like Sean Hanity but to this day he drives me nuts with that “you don’t support the troops if you don’t agree with me” crap. Sometimes I think his constant hounding on things like that is more destructive to my side than it is helpful.
And I identify myself as a liberal in the way JFK did. I decline the “progressive” label as the current crop have co-opted it and have no idea what it means to be a true progressive.
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then … we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” [September 14, 1960]

WRITE-IN HILLARY for WHITE HOUSE
I am Red gal in a blue county I saw your struggle on Foxnews.com, while we don’t agree on politics censorship really ticks me off! Been thinking of going to wordpress, thanks for giving me more reasons.
good luck on your blog!
Regarding the difference between Jeff and Marc. Jeff can post here any time. I’ve had to put Marc on moderation because his “devotion” is getting a bit creepy. Click on the About tab and you’ll see what I mean.
I let anyone comment here who wants to actually have a conversation, but try to beat me over the head with cut-and-paste comments and insults will get you moderated or banned. Such behavior is tiresome.
I’m one of the Fox News viewers that picked up on your blog amongst many. I voted for Clinton/Gore 96 after college and Gray Davis for California Governor 98. I even shook hands with Al Gore at a my alma mater. Then I switched to the GOP after 9/11. Talk about ‘Audacity’ and ‘Change’! haha
I recall the relative silence from the public during Operation Desert Fox 1998 as Clinton bombed Iraq to hell and set the policy for regime change on the table for the next president in 2000, ‘whoever it may be’ at the time. So when Bush was ranting about Iraq, the idea of regime change in Iraq appeared simply a hot & heavy ‘follow-up’ to what the Clinton Administration was aiming for in the first place, so the sweeping Democrat/Republican vote in favor of war was a clear ‘no-brainer’ vote at the time as national public polls also favored war by a solid majority. (hind-sight not considered in my post due to the fact that it’s HIND-SIGHT) Why do people punish Hillary and Democrats for voting for the war? Buyer’s remorse? Wish for a reciept?
I’m a native New Yorker who remembers the vast written tokens of sympathy from fellow citizens and immigrants with ‘United We Stand’ posters everywhere. I was already in the military and clearly recall frantic cell phone calls amongst reservists (women, men, black, white, liberal, conservative, old motorcycle riders, young video gamers) ALL asking for orders to mobilize. We finally mobilized Nov 2001 to help load ‘serious weapons’ aboard ships bound for Afghanistan. As the last ship left, I saw a 19yr old female sailor, who hung out with us during a lunch break, waving to us farewell wearing mittens. She was going to war, not me. She already said goodbyes to family, not me. As a sailor, I was proud, but as a male, I was deeply envious. I awkwardly acknowledged to myself that many women will be charge of things, ..and many women will be dieing for our nation in the coming years.
So when Hillary decided to run in 2008, I has elated and ready to frustrate my fellow republicans. To my surprise, I heard almost nothing inherently ‘bad’ about Hillary from my friends. My college friends like her, my co-workers like her, even my snobby neighbors all wanted Hillary. My deeply-democrat friends (who still bug me for party-switching) supported Hillary for the most part, so the rise of Obama was really a blind-sided hit within my social realm. Most of us are still baffled and shake our heads everytime Obama opens his mouth. What did this guy do during the entire Bush Administration? Nothing!
McCain is actually not that bad, but man what a geezer. I intend to ‘refine’ my vote in the coming weeks, and I’m very glad to see voices such as yours refusing to go away. Keep it up!
Thanks for stopping by and adding to the conversation, desertsailor. Your 9/11 story touched me. I do hope you check back.
I am yet another Christian Right Conservative who supports your right to reach as many people as possible with your views. If you can’t speak freely, I have lost much of what I believe as well. GOOD LUCK! on your blog, and on achieving all those things that are important to you!
Great response from Desertsailor!
Though I don’t agree with the platform of the Democratic party (and the next party platform under Obama is going to be worse yet), I would never propose to silence the practice of free speech. many of my best friends are democrats, though I am a very active Republican. (Not to be confused with a Christian Right Conservative). Sorry to hear about the Ospama responses. I fully support your right not to support your candidate. In fact, I tell my Dem friends that if they want to vote for a Classic Democrat, McCain is their man. If they want a Socialist, Obama.
Keep fighting the good fight.
You now have a new conservative reader!
Cheers!
