Full days at the Air Races are taking a lot out of me, but I’ll be back.
We had an exciting final race today – the Unlimiteds heat, and it was well worth hanging on for the last race of the day. It was, by far, the best race of the day. In addition, we had some post-race excitement…the kind you don’t really like: Rare Bear had a problem with the left landing gear. It wouldn’t unlock and we feared John Penney would not be able to bring Rare Bear in without trashing the plane, or worse, losing his life in the process. However the solution turned out to be what a few on the ground though he should do, which was to apply some G’s in the form of some aerobatic manuevers to hopefully loosen the landing gear. When we heard the the announcement that his gear light had turned to green a roar went up across the box seats and grandstand.
More on the races later…gotta get to bed. Early morning and long day tomorrow. I’m meeting a lot of neat people and having a great time.
