Amber K. Cremeens, 1974-2009

Amber K. Cremeens, 34, died in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, on February 17, 2009. Beloved daughter to Janine Brandon, Victor Freund and James Cremeens. Dearest sister of Andrew Freund, Christopher and Trish Cremeens, and Charles Freund. Beloved soul mate of Alex Carr. Cherished granddaughter of Elaine Rath. Fun-loving aunt to Caenan and Finley.

Amber was an avid traveler.  She enjoyed hiking and camping, and since moving to Colorado in 2007, she took great pleasure in skiing and biking in the mountains. Her love for nature and animals guided her life.

She graduated 7th in her class at McHenry High School-East Campus in 1992. She was a well-rounded student: she played varsity softball, basketball, and was a member of both Student Council and the National Honor Society. In her senior year, she set the ISHA record for most stolen bases in softball and was elected Prom Queen. She was recently nominated for McHenry High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Amber received an academic presidential scholarship and a softball scholarship from Northwest Missouri State University where she graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor’s in Zoology. She earned her MBA from University of Missouri at Kansas City.

During her nine years at Charles River Laboratories, Amber was recognized for her outstanding achievements. Colleagues describe Amber as “a very caring and genuine person, [who] had a positive energy that was contagious. . . [she was] loved and admired by all who came in contact with her.” The company has established a memorial award in her honor.

She was a strong, ambitious woman; a free-spirit who always lived life to the fullest; a brave person who never walked away from obstacles or new experiences.  Amber possessed the rare quality of seeing a person in the best light and loving them despite their flaws.  She always held a positive view on life and never gave up on a brighter tomorrow. She loved and cherished her family and friends. Amber leaves behind many grieving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, colleagues, cherished friends in Illinois and Colorado.  Those who have been touched by Amber’s presence will never forget her sweet spirit.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 27, 2009, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Schneider, Leuht, Merwin and Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock, Illinois 60098, Tel: 815-338-1710.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregational Unitarian Church, 221 Dean Street, Woodstock, Illinois, 60098, Tel: 815-338-0731.  A reception will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the V.F.W. in McHenry, 3002 W. Route 120, McHenry, Illinois 60051, Tel: 815-385-4553.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Amber K. Cremeens to either of two agencies that help individuals escape domestic violence and abuse: Turning Point Inc., P.O. Box 723, Woodstock, IL, 60098; and Safehouse Denver Inc., 1649 Downing Street, Denver, CO, 80218.

  1. You work for a good company.

  2. Thanks. I think so too. Even so, the article above was Amber’s memorial announcement written by her family and reprinted on the company web site. I may have given a wrong impression.

  3. I didnt know your amazing daughter..but I am the survior of an abusive situation almost identical to Amber’s. I visited her memorial in Wheat Ridge Colorado and left her the teridactyl beanie baby. I am so sorry for you loss. I recently lost my boyfriend of 10 yrs in an ATV in Blackhawk, Colorado in October 2007. Those we hold in our arms awhile…We hold in our hearts forever.

  4. Lynne, thank you for your kind words, however, Amber was a co-worker, not my daughter. I am so glad you got out of your abusive situation!

  5. Thank-you for posting this Memorial Announcement. I played Basketball and Softball with Amber in Highschool and have since moved to Texas. She was an amazingly talented person then with a beautiful spirit, it is no surprise that she remained that way to work with. I know she was one hell of an athlete! She could run laps around me any day! Heck she could run laps around most anyone! The world is a sadder place without her. :-( But our lives are forever blessed for having been touched by the light and joy she shared with us in her time here.

  6. I was Amber’s pottery teacher since she moved to Denver. We were blessed by her beautiful smile and wonderful attitude. We will truly miss her and are forever thankful for having her in our lives for such a short time. Rest in Peace dear Amber.

  7. I just ran a google search on Amber to see what the world will find. I’m her little brother and I miss her so much. Thank you for loving her too!

  8. Thank you for stopping by. My heart and sympathies are with you and your family.

  9. I also just ran a search on Amber and am so happy that she is remembered so well. She was such a wonderful person and the personal stories about her make my heart break. Thank you for visiting her memorial, because I couldn’t.

    Emy Abrahams, Amber’s cousin
