Oh. My.

Just when I thought we were through, an old friend has shown up. Cramps and all.

  1. My condolences! I’ve been in the same boat. It’s like, “Oh, shit! Not again. Isn’t 40 years of this enough?” Unfortunately, you can’t throw biological clocks against the wall to get them to stop.

It’s only a consolation, not a cure, but I find wine and chocolates comforting.

  2. Wait until she never shows her face again! It’s heaven!

Wine and chocolate sound perfectly perfect!

    Enjoy!

  3. Hope you don’t mind my asking, but are you taking hormones? If so, your “unwelcome friend” will keep calling periodically ;=)

When I was around your age..umm..10+ years ago, my gyno insisted on hormones because he wanted me to keep having periods. I assumed he knew best so I took them for a couple of years, until the medical journals started reporting a connection between hormone “therapy” and other dreadful illnesses. Around the same time, I read an article in an HSUS magazine about the horrific conditions pregnant mares were subjected to in order to make Premarin (sp?) – the very hormone I had been taking.

All of this came together just when my long-time gyno retired. I went off the hormones, never had another unwelcome visitor, and never looked back except for an agony of conscience whenever I think of those mares.

  4. No, I am not on any hormones. I made that decision a while back, especially when the study results came out.

  5. My revisited me once. What a shock. But I was stressed with company coming, etc, etc. I made it a point never to be stressed again.

  6. Jmac – would that it were that easy!

  7. Not to be an alarmist but if you have not had a period in several years and then one shows up, please go to the doctor and get checked.
Many women do not realise that this a warning sign of cancer.
I had heard of it and when my daughter told me she had gotten a period after several years I nagged her to go to the doctor. She went mainly to shut me up and found she had the beginning stages of cancer. It was caught in time and she was operated on and all is fine.
Please check out any time a period shows up after you think it is over.
It only takes a little time and money for a doctor visit. Please do it.

  8. Hasn’t even been a year. Last one was last May, I believe. I just thought I was all done. But yes, it is time for a pap smear.

  9. I’ve never missed her a single bit. :P
