On my way to work I noticed that the Highway Patrol was out in force this morning, and I thought to myself, I better keep an eye on my speed. It would really suck to get a ticket on my birthday. And my mind slipped quickly to that unhappy place I’ve been before: pulled off to the side of the road, window rolled down and handing my insurance and license to the … Oh My Gawd! My license expires today!!! Crap!
An hour and a half detour to the DMV and then off to work, where I had to get all my work done and make sure all loose ends were tied up by the end of the day since Sweetie and I will be jumping on a plane for Florida tomorrow morning. We’ll be gone a little over a week.
We’re off to Orlando (Kennedy Space Center) and Naples and the Everglades too. Posting may be light for the next couple of days, but then again, maybe I’ll want to share a bit of our adventures.
In the meantime, I’m trying very hard not to think about how much I’m going to miss the critters, especially my little black puppy, Nina. Daughter and Son-In-Law will take good care of them. Still, nine days…

Happy birthday and may you age like fine wine rather than milk.
As we age, like good wine, we grow more mellow. Or as we age, we grow more mellow with good wine. One of the two.
Happy birthday and enjoy your vacation!
Just had a glass of wine and an incredible vegetable wrap. So, I’m feeling mellow. Does that count?
First, Happy Birthday!!! Second, I am so jealous! I’ve been watching Ken Burns National Parks documentary on netflix, and I really want to visit a bunch of them now, including Everglades.
Did you know it was a later park? It almost didn’t become one because people kept referring to it as a swamp. It used to be much bigger, but business interests filled in a lot of it. One of the reasons it became a state park was because the Parks had recently implemented a focus on wildlife, thanks to the first Mexican-American Park Ranger ( I forgot his name, but you can google it). He was, like a lot of early Park employees, independently wealthy and doing it because he loved wildlife diversity and the land. I look forward to seeing pictures when you return!
Anna Belle – this is my first time to Florida, and even though I miss my pups I am so excited. And I’m so glad that I’m getting a chance to see the Everglades. I didn’t know all of that about the Everglades, at all. Thanks for the info. I’ll be looking it up.
