Not surprised

Given BP’s track record on reporting  the volume of the oil spew, this doesn’t surprise me.

The department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement announced Wednesday that the company had submitted inaccurate royalty rates and prices and “reported well production on leases other than those to which the production is attributable.”

According to a release, the errors were found by auditors with the Southern Ute Indian Tribal lands, where the production occurred. BP agreed with the audit’s findings, the department said, and made assurances it would fix its mistakes.

But federal officials and tribal auditors later found the same inaccuracies, which the government maintains shows the mistakes were knowing or willful.
