  1. Who is this kid?

    Someone you know?

Atheists share with liberal believers the understanding that the story told of life, the universe, and everything by the core Christian understanding of the Biblical mythology is completely cracked, its leading character – God – horrific and incomprehensible, and his actions pretty generally fantastic and repugnant.

They differ in that the liberals react to this manifest craziness by claiming that, since taken literally the whole thing is absurd and repellant, the story of the Bible must be understood to be poetry and metaphor expressive of . . . well, if not deism them at any rate something incomprehensible but really, really important and good.

While the atheists note that there is not a shred of justification for such a fantasy masquerading as an interpretation and that, so far as one can tell, nothing of the kind is what the vast majority of believers now believe or have ever believed.

Religious liberals have been split since the Enlightenment between those who wanted to infiltrate the churches merely to moderate the craziness of the believers and the harmful impact of those institutions, turning them to good works as far as possible and those who wanted to take over the churches in order to abolish their hateful scriptures, rites, beliefs, and practices and replace them with an institutionalized “religion within the limits of reason alone.”

Interestingly, some atheists have done and felt just the same, splitting likewise into two camps.

At the same time, there have also been members of both groups who have speculated mankind could do without religion altogether and be the better off for it.

And none of this is going to change in any remotely foreseeable future.

    1. His YouTube channel is TheoreticalBullshit. I’ve subscribed and am working his way through his vidoes.

  2. That he’s actor explains his ease in front of the camera but makes his intelligent and well-informed comments more mysterious.

    1. Looking at his history: He became interested in acting as a kid when his mom tossed him a copy of Hamlet and told him to read it. In a day or so, he’d memorized the famous soliloquy. Sounds like he was quite precocious, which may explain a lot.

    2. And, not all actors are airheads. Those kinds go into waht passes for television journalism.
