I was too in awe to even go up and say hello to her at last night’s Skeptics in the Pub; too afraid I would gush all over her. So I gazed at her from afar, and then, when she stopped at our table to snap our picture, I grinned broadly. In the cold light of morning, I [...]

Hope is the thing with feathers

Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I ’ve heard it in the chillest land, [...]
The month of me
Posted in Home Life on May 28, 2011 | 2 Comments »
I’ve officially dubbed May, the Month of Me. Mother’s Day. Wedding anniversary. My birthday. I turned 55 yesterday. I spent the day working from home via VPN as both bosses were out-of-town and the Friday before a holiday weekend is notoriously quiet. I did laundry, tidied the house, and finally got my office mess under [...]

It was my email, wasnt’ it? I didn’t scream at you. I didn’t insult you. I hope I appealed to your better side. It sounds like a lot of other people did as well. While there is much to criticize about Laura Ingraham’s views, you went somewhere you don’t normally do. You made a mistake. [...]
We have a visitor at work

Our workplace is surrounded by a wrought iron security fence along with lots of trees and shrubs, so it’s a bit of a wildlife sanctuary in the middle of the city. We’ve got ducks and geese and cats and squirrels and birds. And a marmot. I’m watching him from my office window and he’s skittering about on the lawn, rubbing [...]

It all feels so damned futile. I swear, DB just about had me in tears with this one. Desert Beacon: The Assembled Wisdom’s Annual Year End Posture Parade . . . Nevada Republicans have mastered the art of the perpetual campaign. Governance requires some negotiation. Campaigning assumes posturing. Postures are important. Postures are evidently more important [...]

My brother and his family live in Moore. Daughter and I lived in Newcastle and Norman for a while. Another tornado was seen at Chickasha, about 40 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. It later reached Newcastle, closing in on Moore and Norman, suburbs of Oklahoma City. Update: From CNN: Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, [...]

Pot Meet Kettle: The Tim LaHaye Edition

Hoo boy, this is rich. Tim LaHaye wants us to know that Harold Camping is a false prophet. A fake. This from the guy who has made millions on a series of fiction books based on the belief in the End Times doctrine, a view of Christianity that insists that Jesus is coming back in a blaze of glory [...]

Normally I find a local florist and go from there. This time I used ProFlowers.com. I’ve never used them before. And I never will again. First, they delivered the order to the wrong address. It took a week for my step-mom to finally get her Mother’s Day flowers. Today she sent me a picture from her of [...]
