I was too in awe to even go up and say hello to her at last night’s Skeptics in the Pub; too afraid I would gush all over her. So I gazed at her from afar, and then, when she stopped at our table to snap our picture, I grinned broadly. In the cold light of morning, I am hoping that my grin wasn’t a carbon copy of my childhood photo with Santa. When she moved on to the next table, and I turned to my tablemates and totally spazzed. Omigosh! Omigosh! Omigosh! Eugenie Scott just took our picture! Omigosh!
Luckily, the other women at the table shared my geeked-out hero worship, or I would likely have turned into of those people that other people gently avoid, or when they can’t, smile and feign the same sort of enthusiasm they would for a small child who had just told them she was wearing big girl panties!
Off to a full day at SkeptiCal 2011. It’s at times like this when I wish I could split myself in two. Sweetie is going to the Darwin Award creator Wendy Northcutt’s session. I was torn between Bob Carroll’s (creator of the Skeptic’s Dictionary) session, Five Myths About Skeptics, and Susan Gerbic-Forsyth’s session, Guerilla Skepticsim in Wikipedia. When push comes to shove this blogger wants to learn how to do better research, so I’m opting for Susan.
In the afternoon breakout, I’ll be attending Skepchick (and Mad Art Lab managing editor) Amy Davis Roth’s session, Art and Skepticism. But, criminy, it was hard to choose.
Catch ya all later.
