About

Democrat in Exile, who loves her country and is appalled at what we have become.

I believe in not shying away from truth, no matter how much it rattles my preconceived notions about the world.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. I am not afraid.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

  1. Hi there,

We’re with you. Here’s a video you might appreciate – we shot it at the Count The Vote rally in DC on 5/31 – “Deja Vote” captures the voices of the people who attended. It reflects the views many of us share about how the DNC handled the process and the candidates. Feel free to use, it if you like.

    Best,

  2. I just sent simon a long email – a copy of my email to Susan at NoQ when they posted about the blogger spam lockout. I beleive I was one of the original who was locked out. I’ve been blogging a long time (here in Vegas- I see you’re in NV too). I have no intention of moving to wordpress although I have an account there/here. It’s too damn much trouble!

I knew what happened the minute I was blocked and I was back up and running in less than 2 days after I discovered it. I have problems with some major blogger quirks but I’m just not moving – for one thing not only is it too much trouble but it says (imo) “they won” – they accomplished what they set out to do. No dice.

After I was back up and running i made this un nice post – Here It worked out for me because I was too busy to be online there for a few days anyway…

After I discovered my blog locked I immediately went over to this blog where all the old Taylor Marsh posters moved to, and warned them of my being blocked, I knew who/how it happened immediately, and warned them it may be pending for some of their blogs. The next day I had mine back up and running and a few days later I saw the topic in a blog post on NoQ.

But alas, we’re all still here and they’re just going to have to try some other tactics to shut us up!

  3. This is sad. Are you people really that upset because Obama is going to run for President and Hillary is not? Is it because you guys really wanted a woman as the next President? How about this, you have the Green Party. There is a black woman who will be running for President. Since you guys say that you want a woman and you don’t really care about the issues, then here is your chance. Sad that most of you guys will vote for McCain and he already said what he is going to do with some women programs. McCain couldn’t even vote for equal pay for women. Instead, your anger is blinding you from what is right. I am a registered Republican who will vote for Obama. I love my country and I really question if you guys love this country. I feel it is mostly because of the color of Obama’s skin. You guys have supporters like Harriet Christian who say they fought for civil rights but yet start to rant racial slurs. If you are ready to send this country down the drain, please then, vote for McCain.

  4. Let me set this straight for you Hillary lovers. Harriet Christian said that she wanted a woman as the next President. What about the blacks that would like to see a black person as the President. You guys are so phony. You say that Hillary is the better candidate, yet she had more scandals then any Presidential Candidate ever. Lets talk about McKinney who is running for President under the Green Party. I asked so many Hillary supporters if they will vote for McKinney because she is a woman and I also mentioned to them that she is black. Not one responded. When it was Hillary, it was all great. Because it is now a black woman running for President, nobody knows how to respond. You guys are starting something that makes no sense. You claim that the Democratic party did this to you and that is why you can’t be a Democrat. I am sorry, but that is dumb. Because things didn’t go your way (a woman’s way), you want to scream sexism and all kind of crap. I am here to say that you are a phony. I want a President who will get us out of this trouble. You claim thats what you want, but instead when Hillary endorsed Obama, you start to cry. No wonder world leaders are laughing at us. With your kind of attitude, we might as well go back to the days when blacks and whites couldn’t even sit together. You are not about unity, you are going back to the days when we hated each other. You start this site at the time when a black man is running for President. Shame on you. I wish you would show your true colors. I could never support you and what you are starting here. This is a sad day in America. I see why Colin Powell said he would not run for President. Colin Powell said that he will not run for President because he was afraid of what white people would harm him or would say negative things about him. At first, I thought that Colin Powell took that statement too far. But now that I see this site, I have to agree with him and I do pray that there are other people who are more concerned about this great nation, and not holding a temper tantrum because there candidate didn’t win the Primaries. Lets get back to the issues and who will be right for the White House instead of crying over spilled milk.

  5. Harriet Christian is a big supporter of this site. She is the wrong person. She went on Fox News and started her racial slurs but then come out of the same mouth to say, I fought for civil rights for all people. Give me a break.

  6. You start this site at the time when a black man is running for President.

Actually, BlueLyon has been around since 2005. First at Blogger (http://bluelyon.blogspot.com) and then moved here at the end of June this year. Please go back and read my posts and you will see that my evolution as a Hillary support took some time, as did my current dislike for Obama. And neither had anything to do with the color of their skin.

Harriet Christian is a big supporter of this site.

She is??? News to me. She’s never contacted me or posted a comment here. I wouldn’t know her if I passed her in the street.

RE: Cynthia McKinney. See this post: The Choices We Have

Again, quit calling me a racist. I am not and you cheapen the actual meaning of the word by throwing it around so easily.

  7. I want to believe that you care for your country, but you are not helping the cause. Because Hillary lost, you are spreading false issues. I cannot support you on this. Like I said, we have been through enough during the 60’s 50’s and the 40’s. Women have been through alot and so have African-Americans. Like I said, McCain couldn’t even vote for equal pay for women and Obama voted yes. You should read what Obama said. You would love it. McCain said that Roe v. Wade was a decision that must be overturned. I am pro-life, but I am not in any position to tell a woman what to do with her body. McCain feels he has that right, and you are helping him. I never said you are a racist, but you are being a bigot. Instead of defeating the bigger enemy, you are attacking Obama and you are attacking Hillary Clinton.

  8. What “CAUSE” do you speak of? Women’s rights? Privacy? Choice? Civil Liberties? Mental Health? Campaign finance?

Excuse me, but what “false issues” am I spreading?

Is it a false issue to mention that Barack Obama tore up the Fourth Amendment and stood with George W. Bush and voted to expand the government’s ability to spy on Americans without a warrant and to release the telecoms from any legal liability, after promising to stand with Chris Dodd and oppose the bill while MY candidate voted to oppose it?

Is it a false issue that Barack Obama wants to expand George W. Bush’s faith-based programs?

Is it a false issue to object when Barack Obama says he thinks that a woman’s “mental distress” isn’t really a health factor when allowing for government to restrict a woman’s right to choose. First of all, he thinks it’s fine that goverment can actually take the place of a woman’s physician when making medical decisions and, frankly, one is either for for choice or one is not. He says he’s for choice, but only sort of. That’s akin to saying that someone is just a “little bit pregnant.” And his attitude toward mental illness, women and his readiness to accept right-wing frames is appalling.

Is it a false issue to mention that Barack Obama, aformer defender of campaign finance reform and public financing of elections, has become the first presidential candidate in history to do a complete 180 and decline public financing when it looks like it will benefit HIM to do so?

I could go on and on, and I may add more later, but you get the idea. Or maybe you don’t.

I’m not the blind one here.

  9. “Senator Obama has always fought for a woman’s right to choose and has consistently opposed efforts to pass measures lacking a health exception. Senator Obama also recognizes that some people view these health exceptions not as exceptions, but as a way around these restrictions. Senator Obama believes that while “mental distress” should not be covered by a health exception, there will be cases where carrying to term a pregnancy may seriously damage a woman’s mental health and those cases should be covered. He believes that we can craft well-defined health exceptions – as pro-choice legislators have tried in Congress and in state legislatures – that address those concerns and fully protect women’s health.”- Shannon Gilson

I don’t know where you are getting your information, but this is an official statement. I think you owe Obama and his supporters an apology.

  10. Like I said, you are talking out of anger. You really need to understand how serious this election is. I am sorry that your candidate is not running for President, but right now, your anger cannot cloud your judgment. You must really make the right choice and pick somebody who like I said, voted for equal pay for women when McCain thought that it was stupid to even hold a debate. He didn’t even show up to vote. Start talking about Unity and not about anger. Cause the only one who is still angry right now is you and the few that is left.

  11. We’ve seen the exit polls. We’ve read the unequivocal quotes. Many women who are avowed Hillary Clinton supporters are declaring they won’t vote for Barack Obama in the fall.

I get the anger and the disappointment. But to quote SNL’s Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers: Really? You’d rather vote for John McCain, a man who has a 25-year history of voting against a woman’s right to choose? A man who over the last eight years that NARAL has released a pro-choice scorecard has received a 0 percent rating (in his time in office, Obama has received a 100 percent rating)? A man whose campaign website says he believes Roe v. Wade “must be overturned”? A man who has vowed that, as president, he will be “a loyal and unswerving friend of the right to life movement”?

    Really?

  12. McCain opposed Title X, the nation’s family planning program.
In 1990, McCain voted NO on legislation to extend the Title X federal family planning program, which provides low-income and uninsured women and families with health care services ranging from breast and cervical cancer screening to birth control.

  13. McCain opposed legislation requiring that abstinence-only programs be medically accurate and scientifically based.
McCain voted NO on legislation that would help reduce the number of teen pregnancies by providing funding for programs to teach comprehensive, medically accurate sexuality education and other programs to prevent unintended teen pregnancies.

  14. McCain opposed requiring insurance coverage of prescription birth control.
In 2003, McCain voted NO on legislation to improve the availability of contraceptives for women and to require insurance coverage of prescription birth control.

  15. McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade.
In February 2007, the AP quoted McCain stating, “I do not support Roe v. Wade. It should be overturned.” In May 2007, he reiterated his desire to overturn Roe v. Wade during an appearance on Meet the Press stating, “My position has been consistently in my voting record, pro-life, and I continue to maintain that position and voting record.”

  16. McCain opposed repealing the “global gag rule.”
In 2005, McCain voted NO on legislation to overturn the “global gag rule,” which bars foreign nongovernmental organizations from receiving U.S. family planning assistance if the organization (using its own, non-U.S. funds) provides abortion services or information or advocates for pro-choice laws and policies in its own country.

  17. This is what Mary thinks about McCain: Mary said…
    McCain is a notorious sexist.
Look at the treatment of the women in his life, Carol his ex-wife who he dumped after she was disfigured from an automobile accident. If you want to see how a candidate or politican votes/acts for womens behalf just take a good look at his personal life and his relationships with women. Does any more need to be said? I would of voted for Hillary, but now I clearly must vote for Barack. Any feminist who feels differently needs to look at McCain’s horrid behaviour towards Carol, and his voting record that says he is no friend or supporter of our interests.

  18. Now, this is what you sound like. This is an angry Hillary supporter:

I’m a women who’s voting for McCain and this is just some of the reasons. There’s no way in God’s “green earth” I would EVER vote for Obama. If Hillary would have won I would not have voted for McCain because I don’t care for him but now that Obama has won the nomination. McCain has my vote-sad but true.

  19. This woman is not a McCain supporter, but because she is angry that Hillary is not the candidate, she is going to vote for McCain. Like she said, sad but true.

  20. Despite his extreme voting record, 51 percent of women voters in battleground states have no idea what John McCain’s positions are on women’s reproductive health issues.
Forty-nine percent of women currently backing McCain express pro-choice views, and 46 percent of women supporting McCain over Obama/Clinton want to see Roe v. Wade upheld.
In McCain-Obama/McCain-Clinton matchups, 36 percent and 38 percent, respectively, of pro-choice McCain supporters say they are less likely to vote for McCain when told that he opposes Roe v. Wade.

  21. I hope this wakes you up. If you only knew what you sound like. Actually, reading your blog tells me that you are an angry woman and your putting the blame on Obama and his supporters when Hillary ran a bad campaign. She listened to Mark Penn and he set her up for failure. I won’t lie, I was going for Huckabee. Since Huckabee is not running, I listened to the candidates and I do have to say, I am going for Obama. I am pro-life, but I am not one to tell a woman about her body and the gov’t should not tell a woman what to do with there body. Stop telling people to not vote for Obama. You are thinking about yourself and not the young women who will soon loose there rights. Think about it.

  22. Sorry, I forgot to put one more out there for you:

The Illinois senator praised Bush’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives but said that it “never fulfilled its promise” because the administration “consistently underfunded” social service programs for the poor. Obama said he’d replace the Bush program with a Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. “The new name will reflect a new commitment,” he said.

An important goal for Obama: providing summer education programs to 1 million students. Obama’s campaign said it would cost $500 million annually and the money would come from “cutting wasteful spending.”

  23. Marc – you are a troll. You are officially now on moderation. Keep it up and you will be banned. Read my blog and you will see that I am not voting for McCain, nor am I voting for Obama. Drive by and cut-and-paste commenting is not what I want to see in the comments, and frankly, your “dedication” to this is a bit creepy.

  24. Sorry you feel that way and if you want to ban me go right ahead. I just say what I need to say. Trust me, nothing creepy about me. I think the same way when you start a blog like this. If you want to ban me go right ahead. I thought people can express themselves on this site even if you don’t approve what they say. As long as they are not rude or posting vulgar language. So once again, do what you think would make you happy.

  25. I want you to engage Marc. If you cannot do that, other than drive by postings that do not respond to what I or others have actually written (I have three years of posts here for you to peruse), then, yes, you will be banned. Until then, you are under moderation.

  26. Hey BL! I didn’t know you were caught up in the Google purge. Digg’s got one going too, ftr. They’re banning people who digg pro-Hillary, pro-PUMA, or anti-Obama articles. My entire family got banned because I asked everyone to digg my first article posted there.

Anyway, love your site, and thanks so much for coordinating with P&L on the Declaration publication. Are you going to a signing this Saturday? (I’ll be in Cincinnati)

  27. How is everybody doing. My main concern was our next President putting there focus on women issues and our health care crisis. Hillary to me was our best choice. I started reading some of the comments that Marc left, and I am now going to vote for Obama. I hope everybody have a nice day and I am glad that they have sites like this where people can let there feelings out and not be judged or shut down. Keep up the good work.

  28. Okay, Amanda, I’ll bite. What exactly was it the Marc said that convinced you? Right now you sound like a “I used to be a Hillary supporter but now I’m totally on board with Obama” type that we’ve seen before. We don’t buy what you’re selling, frankly. And we don’t usually believe the “former Clinton supporter” moniker you’ve assumed. Sort of like the people who call into talk shows and say, “I’ve been a Democrat all my life…” and then proceed to parrot every rightwing talking point ever. So…again…what was it amongst Marc’s cut and paste comments that convinced you? And are you prepared to here an opposing viewpoint?

  29. Good morning. I don’t know what kind of site this is. The only reason why I agreed with Marc was because for starters, he cut and pasted proof. I checked everything that he pasted and it was true. I also am a very strong supporter of women rights. I was a Hillary supporter, but if I had to choose between the two, I would have to go with Obama at this time.
I finally looked at all of the comments left, and I am surprise at what I read. I thought this was a room where you can speak and not be judged. I see you called the man a troll. You also never explained your position on why you are not voting for Obama when he talked about why Obama should get your support. You then say you are putting him on moderation. I don’t know Marc or really care to know him, but you are not supporting the 1st ammendmant, freedom of speech. I would love to hear somebody’s viewpoint, but I decided it won’t be on this site. I am a proud woman who is proud of her country, and to see somebody who felt strong about Obama get shut down and called names and he never called anybody names…….I just don’t know what to say.
I hope everybody have a good day and I pray that this can be a room where people can debate and not be blocked because their comments are not what one paticular person want to hear.
Also, we want to show strong support for hard working women and our teachers. Go out and vote.

  30. Pingback: Blue Lyon

  31. Good morning everybody. Getting ready for work. I just wanted to respond to BL.
Marc did leave a lot of comments that he copied and pasted. That does not mean that he should be blocked. That is what this site is for. Marc was trying to prove his point to you and if he left 100 comments, at least it gives you the chance to explain to him your position…not call him a creep.
You said he called you names. All you showed me was that he said that he thinks that you didn’t want to vote for Obama because of his skin color. If thats how he feel, he has that right to say that. It is your job to show him why he is wrong. Freedom of speech BL. The KKK talks about hating blacks and Jews and anybody who is not white. Freedom of Speech gives them the right to say what is on their mind, even though they are wrong, but they do have that right.
Collin Powell family did say that they feared for his life.
You still have not proven to me that Marc was wrong. This is your site and I guess if you feel you need to moderate him, then you have that right, but that is why this country is so great. We can talk and give our opinions and not be viewed in a different way. Thats how I feel happened on this site. Marc used his First Ammendment right to explain to you why he is supporting Obama and you shut him down. Your reply still did not help me to understand why you blocked him. It just leaves me to wonder.
I would love to debate on your site, but if talking about real issues and who I now decided to vote for will ban me from your blog, then I will have to stick with Newsweek.
Let people give there feelings on this site and help them and others to understand your position. Don’t get mad and call them names like creep or troll. Thats not what your site is suppose to be about.
I am still open right now on who I want as my next President, but right now, Obama is leading and probably will get my vote. Your job was for me to read peoples comments about why they are voting for Obama and why you think it would be a mistake. That would help me to understand your position and help me to understand our candidates better.
I hope everybody have a great day and today we are having a cake sale at my job to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.

  32. Amanda, you are starting to tire me.

First, could you please respond in the comments section of the post to which you are referring? You read it, please respond there so as to facilitate dialog with the rest of my readers.

Second, you do know that the doctrine of Freedom of Speech is about the government not being able to stop us from what we want to say, right?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

It says nothing in the US Constitution that a citizen has no right to remove disruptive people from their homes, businesses, etc. Nor are CITIZENS required to listen to everyone. ONLY the government cannot do that. The government can neither refuse to hear our grievances nor stop us from exercising our free speech. But in case you haven’t noticed, they’ve already done that with their Free Speech Zones.

In addition, I did not shut Marc down. Get it straight. He is on moderation. And it’s odd to me that now that he has disappeared, you have suddenly appeared. This sort of tag-team approach is something we in the pro-Hillary blogosphere has seen before. One comes in and spews all over, irritates the rest of the community, gets moderated (or banned…though not in this case), soon to be followed by another telling us how we are violationg the first person’s right to free speech.

Please read the comments below my reply to you on the Home Page. I am not the goverment. For all intents and purposes this blog is my home. Would you stand long for someone coming in to your home and insulting you and your friends?

I like a hearty argument as much as anyone, that’s why I’m here.

And what do you mean, “You still have not proven to me that Marc was wrong.”? In what specific area? That I object to Obama because of the color of his skin? That I ONLY want to see a woman elected? What?

Please answer on the front page. Thank you.

(Cross-commented in the comments section of the reference post)

  33. Just to let you know, I am a pilot. I am not here all the time so lets get that straight. I see somebody has my back I guess. I just want to say and I don’t care if you want to post it or not I don’t care if I can’t leave a mesage. I read all of these comments and I am glad that somebody agrees with me. I never said anything rude like I said, just the facts and my beliefs. If you want to ban me from your blog because you want me to agree with you, then you go against everything that you say. The media shut Hillary out and then when I talk, you want to shut me out. Hmmmmm, I wonder. To the people that agre with me, thank you. If I can make one person listen, I have won. So go ahead and keep me banned, I have won. You have proven my case. You claim that the media was against Hillary and they would not let her shine. Well, you are just like them. You can’t even debate me on the issues. You just run and use threat against me. Thank you. You are right about the media because you act just like them.

  34. One last time and this is it. I didn’t ban Marc, he is on moderation. However, just to be clear, Marc and Amanda have the same email domain so it appears that what I said above about the “tag team approach” has been born out.

Marc and Amanda, you are banned now. Buh bye.

Please feel free to comment. FYI: First time commenters automatically go into moderation. Don't take it personally. .
